Don't Blow - Dip Your Wick

How to put out a scented candle WITHOUT BLOWING OR PRODUCING SMOKE!!

Do you know what the absolute best way to put a scented candle is???
Do you know how to put a scented candle out without producing smoke in the freshly scented air???

You won't believe how simple and easy it really is. It works on votive candles, pillars, wedding candles, scented jar candles & container candles!!!

Ask yourself have you ever burned a wonderful scented candle that you just loved the way it's aroma's filled your home with inviting fragrances and then when it was time to blow out your candle the wonderful scent was now the smell of a smoking wick? Not exactly what you were going for when you lit the incredibly scented candle right?

The best way to put out the flame of a scented candle is to simply DIP YOUR WICK!!
Using a candle dipper or other resourceful items simply dip your wick into the pool of wax and the flame is out with no smoke.

Traditionally your wick will pop back up if not use your dipper to lift it back up. Dipping your wick to put out the candle flame will also prepare your wick for the next time you burn it.

My kids seem to always have un-sharped pencils in the house so I have been known to reached for one and dip my wick when I didn't have a wick dipper near by. You can get creative without the need to buy a wick dipper but make sure you use safe items to dip your candle wick and never use your fingers to put out the flame.

I know some think putting out a scented candle jar candle is easy. Many just put the lid on top to smother the flame. There is better way and you can save your jar lid in the process, just dip your wick.

I beleive jar candle and container candles after they have been burned for the last time the jars should be reused and recycled. There are many great ways to reuse jar candles throughout your home or office you just get creative and fill with aroma beads or sand art. The are so many ways they can be reused and recycled. So when I burn a jar candle I just can't stand to put it out using the lid because as the flame is being smoothered it is also burning the inner top of the lid, yuck that makes the lid look burned & ugly. I want to reuse my jar and my lid so I put out the scented candle the best way I know how, I dip my wick!!!!!

As always before you light your candles you must trim your wick to 1/4". Proper wick care plays a major role in helping you have cleaner & longer burning candles.

So it's a new Year 2010, I think that is exciting but some say it will not be an exciting year but rather just a hard year. I guess it is all in how you choose to look it. I know that tomorrow is my future and I believe I have a great future ahead of me some days harder than others and some easier than others.

Last week end for example was a wonderful weekend filled with family all around. We were celebrating my oldest son going into the Marines. The entire weekend was a blast I felt so blessed to have all my family together having a great time eating, playing games and realizing how much we all mean to each other. However once it was time for him to head out to San Diego for Boot Camp another reality hit me and it hit me hard, my son was leaving the nest as hard as that hit me I must admit it hit me so much harder when I had to tell me son goodbye knowing that over the next 5 or more years I will be lucky to see him and I will be praying daily that he is safe. As a mom how can I not feel my son is going to be put in harms way, and how can I not worry and be concerned about that. I am so proud of his choices but also scared of his choices.

Ok yes I did cry and was very emotional for days after we had to say goodbye. I couldn't help but ask myself what did I do wrong that he didn't want to go to college (he is very smart) instead he had his mind set on being a Marine. Then someone very wise made me realize I did teach him very well so well he knew what he wanted and he didn't let anything stop him including a very emotional good bye. So some days of my future are going to be great, some good and some very hard but all are worth experiencing.

Something that really helped was going out shopping with the intent to treat myself to something simple but would help me feel better. I ended up buying myself a very nice notebook/organizer. I know you are thinking how is that a treat for myself? Well it is simply really while I was walking and shopping I thought to myself it sure would be helpful to write all these feelings down and perhaps send to my son as letters. Well turns out after reading what I wrote there was no way I could send those thoughts to my son because it would have made it almost impossible for him to stay in boot camp and not come running home, I had a whole list of reasons why he shouldn't be a Marine and why he should just drop out and come home go to college. After reading it I realized how selfish I was being I couldn't handle the thought of him getting hurt or worst as a Marine so I wanted him to give it up. How could I do that to him? After reading over and over again what I wrote I began to feel so proud of my son and for him being so strong and willing to do what he must for his future. Yes I would still love for him to go to college but I am more proud of him for doing what he feels is best for his future and not just his mom's peace of mind. I know it was extremely hard for him to leave his family but I also now understand that as hard as it is for us with him being gone and possibly in the future he could be in harms way it has to be so much harder for him. Moral of this long story is when I took the time to treat myself to something simple it made a world of difference in making me feel so much better.

These days, especially with the recession we have to stop and treat ourselves to something simple and special. For many candles are the perfect pick-me-up. We Survived Hurricane Ike

We Survived the hurricane. We survived with out power, we survived without internet services. Ike did cause some damage but nothing we can't overcome.

During the Hurricane our online store stayed up and running and taking orders. We are working long hours to play catch up and clean up knowing we are all grateful because it could have been much worse as it was for so many.

To our customers we want to offer our Thanks for your patience while we were not able to work during the time the power was down. Thanks for your patience in waiting for your candles to arrive and us to make your candle as soon as we received power again.

We are blessed because we survived the hurricane, we have our health, our families are safe and we have the best candle customers.

Hurricane IKE is on his way to our area!!

It Hurricane season again and for those of us in Texas near the Gulf Coast we are ready IKE! We are experienced Hurricane survivors. By now most of us have boarded up our windows, filled up our gas tanks, got cash from our bank accounts and plenty of water, flash lights and candles.

For those that want to track the storm hurricane Ike go to www.abc13.com for local up to date info.

Expecting the lights to be out for a couple of days we have plenty of food we can make without electricity and we plan to grill plenty so we stocked up on charcoal. Once the rain ends we should be able to cook outside at least we hope so. Dry ice is another great thing we are using to keep our cold goods cold for a while after we loose electricity.

While hurricane's aren't fun I find it wonderful to see so many people come together to help each other out, does it always take a storm to bring people together to help one another? I would like to believe most of us love to help and want to help people all the time with or without a hurricane to call us to action.

Teri's Candle Making Instructions - Regular Basic Scented Candles.

At Texas Triple Scented candles we know how much fun candle making can be, while we will not provide our triple scenting secrets (our special waxes, oils, additives, mixing and pouring processes) listed below are some basic candle making instructions for regular scented candles. How to Make Soy Container Candles (small batch in microwave)
Items Needed:
1 (32+ oz.) measuring cup
Mixing/stirring spoon
Wicks
Candle Dye
Fragrance Oil
Jars/Containers
Soy Wax

Instructions:
Fill measuring cup with soy wax to the 32 oz, do not overfill. Microwave for 4 minutes (microwave ovens vary time my need adjusted). After wax is melted you may need to add more wax to reach 32 ounces of wax. Set oven to lowest setting (warm). Wait 10 minutes remove from oven add candle dye to the mixture and at the last minute add your fragrance oil of your choice stir well. Pour mix into warmed jars/containers wait 5 minutes and add your wick (you could also add your wick before you pour using a wick & stick-ums to stabilize your wick). You are done let your candle set & solidify for at least 24 hours before burning.

How to Make Votive or Pillar Candles
Items needed:
Melting Pot - double boiler
Thermometer
Mixing/stirring spoon
Measuring cup or scale
Votive/Pillar Wax
Fragrance Oil
Dye
Molds and Wicks

Instructions:
Weigh your wax 1 pound of wax makes about 8+ votive candles. Place wax in melting pot and heat on low setting. Use thermometer and heat to approximately 170-180 degrees. DO NOT overheat the wax. While wax is melting, set up your molds on a sturdy clean surface. Add wick or wick pins. After wax has melted, remove pot from heat source. Add your fragrance oil. 1 ounce of fragrance oil to 1 pound of wax.. Add your dye a little goes a long way, add one drop at a time, stirring constantly, until the desired color is achieved. Check your temperature should be between 160-170 degrees. Slowly pour wax into the mold leaving about 1/4" from the top, for non 1 pour waxes, keep your left over wax. After your candle is solid you may see a sink hole time to remelt your left over wax and do your 2nd pour. Let the candles completely solidity. Remove candle from mold if you used wick pins now place the wick in the candle. You will now have a wonderful candles you created.

Scented Candles

Scented candles come in just about every scent imaginable. These candles are quickly
gaining in popularity, as they make an attractive addition to the home décor, can be used in aromatherapy, or can simply help you feel relaxed or bring back happy memories. Scented candles are also available in a wide array of candle styles, from taper candles, to jar candles, to votive candles, and pillar candles, you can find a pleasing scent for any occasion and candle purpose.

Adding the Scent to Your Candle

Scented candles are
generally made using one of two different techniques. The first is to use fragrance oils.
Fragrance oils are synthetic reproductions of essential oils, which are the other option
for scenting candles.

Essential oils are concentrated essences of the bark, seeds, roots,
flowers, stems, fruits, or leaves of an aromatic plant. Generally, the oil is removed from the plant through steaming. Essential oils are the only method used for scenting candles intended for use in aromatherapy because these oils are believed to be able to benefit the body in numerous ways. In fact, they have been used for thousands of years to stimulate the immune system, to inspire certain emotions, and to enhance mental clarity and other body systems.

The scent created by fragrance oils is still very pleasing to the

senses, though not beneficial to your health. It is, however, generally possible to create a greater variety of scents when using fragrance oils. In addition, scented candles made with fragrance oils can still evoke certain emotions by bringing back special memories or through a candle light dinner.

Caring for Scented Candles

In order to gain the optimum amount of aroma in a scented candle, the fragrance is added at the very last possible moment when they are being made. This helps prevent evaporation of the oil and loss of scent. When these candles are burned, the fragrance should be able to fill an entire room. To make sure your scented candle stays strong and pleasant, you should store them in a plastic bag or in their original wrapper until it is time to burn them. Alternatively, you can keep a scented candle unwrapped in a candleholder in a room to provide a slight scent, but it won't be as strong when you burn it.

After candles with fragrance have burned for a period of time, they
tend to develop what is referred to as a carbon "mushroom" at the top of the
wick. After using the candle, and after it has had time to cool, take a tissue to remove
this buildup in order to ensure a fresh scent the next time the candle is used.

Gaining the Maximum Effect

After smelling the same scent for a period of time, our noses grow
accustomed to the scent and we no longer really notice the smell. Therefore, burning the same scented candle will not continue to be pleasant over a period of time because you will no longer notice its scent. To provide your nose with a continuous flow of pleasant smells, you should purchase several different scented candles and alternate between them. This way, you will be sure to always have a great candle scent to smell!
